A FEW WORDS ABOUT
What We Do
OUR PROJECTS
Our organization is involved in numerous projects

INTERFAITH
CMGT Team Leaders, Caroline K. Williams and Khawlah N. Hammad attended the Evanston Interfaith Climate Summit at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary on April 6, 2019.
There were many great speakers, including Veronica Kyle (Faith in Place), Dr. Jalees Rehman (UIC and Faith in Place), and sister Tahera Ahmad (Northwestern University) who beautifully shared the Quranic verses and sunnah about the environment and honeybee.

CITIZEN SCIENCE
On February 29, 2020, CMGT hosted “Introduction to Citizen Science” Workshop at Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum.
This free workshop aims to introduce and engage faith based community to Citizen Science, a fun science-based activity for all ages and a great tool to build a better, healthier community.
At the event David Bild from Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum and Jennifer Schwarz Ballard from Chicago Botanic Garden delivered very interesting and informative presentations about Citizen Science projects that are available for the public to participate.
The titles of their speeches are “The Wide World of Community and Citizen Science: There’s a project for you!” and “Budburst: Community science for conservation action,” respectively.

WORKSHOP
On On January 26, 2020, Chicago Muslims Green Team (CMGT) held its first Green Team Training at the Downtown Islamic Center (DIC) at 231 South State Street.
The purpose of the event was to formally introduce the Green Team concept to regular DIC mosque attendees and members of the Chicagoland ummah.
CMGT is working to support Green Teams at DIC and other mosques around the Chicagoland area in an effort to raise awareness about environmentally friendly living, eco-social justice issues and help mosque attendees become leaders in the movement to build a more ecologically friendly city.
A top priority was to host a “Zero Waste” Green Ramadan iftars. Other ideas included a Zero Waste program, water conservation, energy audit, nature outings, green khutbahs, environmental education for children, eco-programming for families, and a Faithful Citizen Advocacy workshop.

ECO-FRIENDLY BIRTHDAY PARTY
CMGT organized our first Eco-friendly Birthday Party on June 16, 2019.
Acivities at the event consist of:
- Rewarding attendees who bring their own water bottle and who volunteer at the event
- Hands-on activities for kids on waste sorting for composting
- DIY eco-friendly party bubble
- Sharing free lettuce and basil seedling, native plant seed balls donated from Gotham Green and Homes4Monarchs
- Handmade party gift tags and decoration from recycled materials
- Outdoor fun activities for kids at Maggie Daley park
Thank you C3 Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum for providing compostable plates, cups, utensils, healthy snacks, and juices. Also, thank you Faith in Place for donating the composting service.
